Valenbisi

Valenbisi is the city's program to promote bike transportation.   Today we signed up, and went for our first ride.

There are bike stations all over the city.  You pickup a bike from any station and return it to any other station.

The prices are cheap.  About 30€ buys you a card good for a year. With the card, you're able to unlock a bike at the kiosk, and off you go.  If you return the bike within a half hour, you pay nothing.  From 30 to 60 minutes, the cost is 0,53€.  Each hour after that is 2,08€.  They're clearly trying to encourage short trips with quick returns.  The bikes are built like tanks, but they have 3 gears that are pretty well chosen for the mostly flat terrain of the city.

Plenty of people own their own bikes, of course, but few are as fancy as this one.

We took a nice bike ride in the Turia, and relaxed the rest of the day.  We were still a little tired after the language exchange last night.  We had a great time and didn't get home until midnightish, so today required a little extra relaxation.  

BTW, we're assured by everyone here that Valencia is safe, even walking home at that hour.   So far, so good.  We've felt secure here.
