Plaza Ayuntamiento

After a very frustrating session online trying and failing to buy tickets to the upcoming Valencia vs. Real Madrid game, we plotted a course in Google Maps to the Valencia Team Megastore.  That turned out to be a good decision, both because of the tickets and the scenery.  The store is right next to the Plaza Ayuntamiento, the big square in the middle of Valencia.

This is the part of Valencia that reminds me most of Barcelona.  It's large and impressive, with a mixture of architecture that's really apparent in all of Valencia.

You can have a look around with street view if you like.

This art deco theater is just off the plaza.

It would fit perfectly with the Chrysler Building.  There was a film festival there playing "Two Weeks in Another Town," a 1962 movie starring Kirk Douglas, Edward G. Robinson, Cyd Charisse and George Hamilton.  I think the best way to enjoy the inside of the theater would to attend a classic movie, so we'll be returning.

Here are a few more pics from the plaza.

And, as usual, odd stuff in the streets.

A block from the plaza is some of the financial district.  These two banks are across the street from each other.

Which do you like better?

I love finding these contrasts in the city.

BTW, I got the tickets without problems, and ALL in Spanish.  It's getting easier!

I'm pretty happy with my progress this winter, but that's probably more due to my low expectations and goals than to how far I've come.
